about

We were intrigued by the songwriting style of those bands who lurk between death and thrash metal. Bands that uses fast scales in their riffs yet somehow the song turns out dark and heavy. We attempted that style of writing in the "Fire Death Chaos" split release where we tried to sound like Florida's INCUBUS. We got hooked to that style and decided to write a song that uses scales.

Listeners would probably get thrown by this song because it sounded way different compared to the other songs. But we felt the need to include this song in the album as a closing, or a nail to the coffin.

The song starts off with an ominous build up. And we assumed that listeners would not expect the main part to be like that all. The riff is made up of scales that confuses between a speed or thrash metal style riffing.

The middle part of the song comprised of three riffs which was written to sound like the chants of a prayer. Initially, we only wanted to leave it as a passage where the riffs are supported by the drums. Since the song is about the scenario after a burial, we decided to add the chants as well. DARK BLASPHEMIES RECORDS did not like how the chants sounded, which really gave off an awkward vibe. Listeners will get to hear the chants in the SADIST RECORDS version of this album.

The lyrics tells about the scenario during a burial. The belief is when the funeral visitors start leaving the grave, seven steps away as the visitors walk away, the soul of the buried would leave the body. This is described to be a dream-like experience for the dead as it witnesses the processes of the funeral and burial as a third person before finally realizing that it is experiencing its own death.

After the burial, the family members of the deceased would usually congregate and pray for the dead. The prayer climaxes into repeated chantings of praises to God. During the chanting, the atmosphere can be very intense depending on how passionate the members of the congregation are. We wanted to capture that intense vibe and put that into the song. Watch out for the SADIST RECORDS version!

The lyrics itself is very simple following a verse, chorus approach and a bridge.

lyrics

SEVEN STEPS ABOVE SIX FEET UNDER

Eyes wide opened, darkness surrounds
Bounded and gagged, suffocation
Hear the sound of earth, hitting the face
The body lay stiff, coldness embrace
Chantings of prayers, so unfamiliar
Sudden silence fills the emptiness

Chorus
Seven steps
Marched above
Souls awaken
Six feet under
Rise from the grave

Eyes wide opened, darkness surrounds
Staring at a grave, familiar name
Hear the sound of death, beating the skin
The body felt fluid, coldness embrace
A surreal dimension, so unfamiliar
Sudden chaos fills the emptiness

Chorus
Seven steps
Marched above
Souls awaken
Six feet under
Rise from the grave

Bridge
Within the confusion, the eternal torture is set to begin
No chance to seek the meaning of life and death, still mysterious
Time was given, time was wasted, time was dedicated to sins
Time is now for torture, time is eternal, time is the enemy
